There’s plenty of Colourful Yunnan chains in Melbourne and we hit up the one in Burwood for a friendly catch up. The service was efficient, the staff were friendly and it does get busy so definitely make a booking so you don’t have to wait. Walking in you can smell the amazing soup bases and it really does get your mouth watering. The concept is pretty easy. Individual hot pot and order whatever the hell you’d like to put in it and of course no need to share either!
We were recommended to dry the bread drink (I forgot what it was called) but basically it sort of a milk drink with bead chunks in them and holy damn it was amazing!
Each person will have an individual hot plate in front of them, order whichever soup base you’d like and it ranges from non spicy to spicy and of course you can order dipping sauce on the side.
So basically you got your individual hotpot and you just order whatever you want to put in it. I’d recommend the mushroom combo so you feel a touch healthy and of course the meat combo which comes with lamb, beef and pork.

If you love quail eggs, definitely get the quail eggs with smashed beans. It’s savoury, it’s yolky goodness and the beans gave it a nice freshness to it. The braised pig ears were on the spicy side and I wasn’t a huge fun but the rest of the table loved it. It was crunchy and tasty.

Colourful Yunnan is a great place if you love hotpot and hate sharing the actual pot. There’s a huge variety of things with various broth flavours. Definitely get the quail eggs with peas and of course the hotpot. Colourful Yunnan, we will be back.
