The stooges were sleeping over and of course we had to brunch in the Yarra Valley or Coldstream. I made a booking for Coombe, the Melba Estate and boy, was it beautiful. We got into the carpark and Coombe was hidden away behind these huge hedges. Once you step through the hedges, it was MAGNIFICENT! It was serene, it was gorgeous and best of all, it was classy!
We went inside the restaurant and yes, we were blown away once again! It was open, it was surrounded by glass and we were in awe. The photos we took did not do it justice.
Finally, down to the food! It took a while for our drinkies to come out and considering that it wasn’t super busy and it was just coffees, it should have been out within 10 mins and not 20 minutes later after we asked about it.
First up, the mocha. Yes, it was AWESOME! Stooge 1 absolutely loved it.
Mocha – $4
I got a chai latte and yes, it was smooth, yes, it was creamy and no, it wasn’t as chai-y as I like it to be which was a shame.
Chai Latte – $4
Now, lets get onto brunch! The poached eggs were Egg-cellent! The yolk oozed out like golden goodness and the chili relish really gave it a kick. We would have liked a bit more avocado in our opinion but hey, smash avo must be getting more pricey now.
Poached Eggs – $17
crushed avocado, chili relish, Coombe sourdough toast
The scrambled eggs with the smoked Tasmanian salmon came out and this was our favourite dish. Everything was so balanced, the salmon was so smokey and there was a nice surprise of roe on top. LOVED THIS DISH!
Scrambled Eggs – $17
smoked Tasmanian salmon, goat curd, Coombe sourdough toast
Finally stooge 2 got the Coombe breakfast which included an array of things. The sunny side eggs were disappointing and were cooked too much and did not have an oozy yolkness to it. The black pudding wasn’t the best either and had a strange smell it to it which we didn’t enjoy. However, we LOVED the bacon and the hash! It was AMAZEBALL!
Coombe breakfast – $24
Coombe is a lovely place where you can take a garden tour or have wine tasting at the cellar. The food? Well, it was lovely but it a little disappointing. We loved the smoked salmon but other then that, it didn’t really impress us. Sorry Coombe, we really did want to love you.
