Kuu Cafe, South Melbourne

The girlies in the gang decided to get brunch and chose Kuu Cafe, a Japanese cafe and eatery located in South Melbourne, a Miss Mori choosing. Luckily for me, it was the Easter weekend which means parking in front of the cafe was absolutely free (BOOM!). I was running late and when I arrived, the girlies were there and had a bagged a table. It was really cozy inside and the decor was super duper cute.

The girlies got the matcha green tea latte and the hot chocolate. The green tea latte was oh so yummilicious – so smooth and silky and very matcha-fied. Miss Asian Fusion got the hot chocolate and she wasn’t quite impressed with it though, nothing special.

I went for the genmai cha tea which has a hint of roasted brown rice which is also known as popcorn tea (say WHAT?!). Just a heads up though, you need to let it brew for quite a while, maybe when you’re done with your miso soup if you ordered any. The roasted brown rice really gives it a popcorn-y smell and taste and I really like it.

I ordered the Japanese Brekky platter for the hungry which also comes with miso soup. The soup wasn’t too salty and quite light which I really enjoyed. There was tofu in there and I just plopped all my tofu into Miss Mori’s bowl (EAT IT ALL!!).

When I saw the breakfast platter, I was so disappointed in how much grilled salmon I got – it was teeny tiny! Then we realised that you also get the salmon in the mash potato (which was FABULOUS by the way) and in the onigiri rice ball which gave it some flavour. The salad was refreshing and I finished that in no time. The meatballs were okay and so was the fried chicken. The poached egg was cooked too long and did not have any yolk oozing out at all. It was a huge platter but I wouldn’t recommend getting this though.

Miss Mori also ordered the chickpea croquette on the side and I didn’t enjoy it at all. It was quite bland and nothing special.

Miss Spam got the karaage fried chicken burger with a brioche bun. She thought it was quite average but then, she does enjoy her fingerlickin’ fried chicken yo!

Miss Asian Fusion got the Ebi Katsu Burger and chips. The chips were great and crunchy (just the way I like them). The burger itself, Miss Asian Fusion thought it was pretty average. That was disappointing because it looks amazeball!

Miss Teeth absolutely LOVES wasabi and got super excited when she saw the wasabi don. There were huge chunks of sashimi salmon but the lemon wasabi didn’t give it the wasabi punch she was looking for. She was quite disappointed but finished the whole plate anyway.

A very cute and small cafe located on a non busy road in South Melbourne. Dishes were pretty average but the matcha latte was AWESOME SAUCE! I also noticed that it does get super busy AND everyone was coming in to get a takeaway coffee/green tea/smoothies and other sorts of drinkies so that must be the way to go.
