It was Mr Burberry’s birthday and he wanted to try Phillipe since he’s been hearing great things about it so onward we went for some french cuisine. Phillipe is located on Collins Street tucked away and when you enter the restaurant, you’re greeted by friendly staff and the smell of rotissoired chicken (mmmmmMMMMmm!).
For entrees we got a mixture of dishes. The pate croute was quite salty and very meaty and dense. It wasn’t my cup of tea.
Pate Croute – $21
Pork, veal, foie gras, pistachios, mushrooms, pickled veggies
The king salmon was amazing! It was fresh but on the saltier side.
Beetroot cured Ora King Salmon gravlax – $23
Fennel salad, walnut mayonnaise, champignons a la Grecque
The foie gras was quite dense and the flavours weren’t as intense as I usually like it. The brioche though, it was FABULOUS!
Quail & Foie Gra Parfait – $16
Red currant & orange ginger jam, toasted brioche
The potato gnocchi smelled delish and the texture was like little clouds melting in my mouth. However, the puree and the goat cheese didn’t tickle my fancy at all.
Potato Gnocchi – $30
Stinging nettle puree, marinated goat cheese
For those lamb lovers out there, this was so tender and juicy and was just amazing!
Charcoal Grilled Lamb Rack – $45
Honey & spice lamb ribs, grain salad
The star of the night is the chicken rotissoire! It was succulent, it was juicy, it was perfectly cooked it was just AMAZEBALL!!! This is the their signature dish and I can definitely see why. A must get dish if you come here.
Bannockburn Chicken Rotissoire – $36
Mushrooms, potatoes, natural jus
Now moving on to desserts, the fig tart was the special of the night and the tart base was crumbly and the jam was very jam-y with figs on top. I’m not a fan of figs but if I had taken the figs off, boy oh boy was it delish!
Fig Tart – $18
Mr D got the chocolate fondant and this was oozing with goodness. Very chocolate-y but not overly sweet. The vanilla ice cream didn’t have a strong vanilla flavour to it so that was disappointing.
Michel Cluizel Chocolate Caramel Fondant – $18
Vanilla bean ice cream
Once you step into Phillipe, you notice how comfortable you’ll feel. The staff are very welcoming and super friendly and helpful with service to match. Definitely come for the chicken and stay for the fondant. Will we be back? Most definitely.
