Ing Doi Thai, Collingwood

Catch up with the girlies once again and we were struggling for places to book last minute. We remembered Ing Doi and thought to ourselves, its been a while since we’ve been back so we booked Ing Doi and prepared ourselves for some Thai all you can eat. Woohoo!

We took a seat and it was completely empty which meant faster service for us. We had a looksie at the menu and saw the the price for the buffet was now $37.50 (when did it go up? It was $32 a while back) and you basically could pick everything from the a la carte menu and that also included some basic drinkies. I got the milk ice tea and my, my, my, it was super duper sweet. I generally love sweet things but I wasn’t expecting this to be this sweet.

We went for entrees next and there were spring rolls, prawn spring rolls and chicken skewers. The springrolls were a touch dry and quite bland which was very disappointing. The chicken skewers were lovely and when dipped with the peanut sauce, YUMMO!!

Every time I see the word roti, my knees go weak and so I just had to get the roti. These were buttery and not as fluffy but they did satisfy my cravings.

Miss Pandan adores papaya salad and when this dish came out she was excited. However, once we tasted it, all we could taste was fish sauce and no other flavour which was a shame.

Miss Train wanted curry and we got the duck red curry (LOVE DUCK!) and the green curry with chicken. We found the curries to be quite bland and not rich at all (the green one). They could have been more generous in the amount of duck since there was only literally 3 small pieces. These could have been a bit better.

A bowl of Tom Yum Soup was placed in front of us and this was pretty decent. We got the seafood option and this had quite a lot of flavour. I noticed that the flavour wasn’t infused into the soup but rather was just mixed in.

I got the seafood pad thai and boy, was it super sour. I couldn’t taste anything except for sourness AND they gave us a piece of lemon to squeeze on the dish (trust me, you don’t need that lemon). We could not finish even a quarter of the dish.

Miss Pandan ordered the fish fillet with apples and the fish on the inside was super duper dry. This too was drenched in fish sauce and had no other flavours at all.

For dessert MIss Train got the banana fritter with vanilla ice cream and the ice cream didn’t even taste like vanilla. The banana fritter wasn’t too bad and she devoured it in no time.

I got the mixed ice cream since I was looking for something refreshing. The mixed ice cream consists of mint, chocolate, orange and strawberry. These were not really ice creams at all. I couldn’t taste the flavour except for the strawberry one which I managed to finish. I was really disappointed because they weren’t creamy either.

The quality of Ing Doi had gone down hill since last time we dined here which was a shame. The service was really slow and the waitress didn’t understand us when we ordered and got us the wrong dishes. The food came out really slow and for the price, I think there are plenty other Thai places to go before heading on down here. Sorry Ing Doi but I’ll be finding a new Thai place.
