Saxe has been on my go-to list and when one of the stooges’ birthday came up, I was in charge of scoping out a place we haven’t checked out. Which means, SAXE it is! At Saxe there’s an a la carte or a set menu and of course, we got the set menu since we are oh so indecisive. Now, you can have the 5 course for $105 or 7 courses for $145. The staff recommended that we start off the 5 course and see how we feel since she was very certain that we’ll be full (that’s a big assumption mate!).
The starters came out and not only was there bread (who doesn’t love carbs?!) Dip the bread in the bean paste and it tastes so delish and healthy! The mackerel was perfectly cooked with and the little roe cigarettes were a great surprise. Definitely a great way to start our meal.
We needed to get our greens in and the celeriac came out to healthy us up!

The duck was a touch on the chewy side and I didn’t really enjoy all the flavours. It wasn’t my cup of tea. The chicken tortellini on the other hand was holy moly so effing delish! Yes, you only get three pieces BUT those three pieces were AMAZING! Subtle flavours, amazing pasta that wasn’t too thick and cooked oh so well, definitely a recommended dish.

The pork scotch with chicko roll of the shoulder was MAGNIFICENT! The pork was perfectly cooked, well seasoned and the chicko roll gave it a nice crispy texture. Now, for the star dish of the night, the barramundi! The barramundi was cooked perfectly and fell apart as soon as you look at it and the carrot xo sauce was so light and fragrant, it brought the whole dish together. Definitely a recommended dish!

Finally the set menu ended with the Imperial Mandarian consisting of yoghurt, almond and curd sorbet. It was fresh, it was citrusy and holy moly it was effing fantastic!

If you haven’t checked out Saxe yet, put it on your list. The five course was the perfect amount for us and we left rolling out of the restaurant. Great service, great food and great value, we will definitely be back Saxe!
