The French Brassarie, Melbourne

Mr D decided to surprise me for my birthday dinner and since I LOVE LOVE LOOOOOVE french food, he took me to The French Brassarie (Yayers!!!), a hidden gem tucked away in Melbourne.

When we walked inside, we were welcomed instantly and was shown to our table. It was quite warm inside and very dark. There were little lights but they were so dim, I had to shove the menu in my face to read it (damn, should have brought my flash light). That was probably the only negative thing I could say because from that point on, everything was awesome. We got the charcuturie board because I wanted a little bit of everything and it also includes foie gras (YUMMO!). Everything on the board was DELISH! I was going to town with it!

Charcuturie Board – $24

I was quite full at this point and the staff predicted that since I was getting the cassoulet. When our mains came out, my gosh, the cassoulet was GINORMOUS! There were white beans, confit duck leg, pork belly and toulouse sausage. Even if my tummy wasn’t filled with yummilicious foie gras, I wouldn’t be able to finish this dish. I found that it needed a bit more salt and this dish was quite heavy.

Cassoulet – $40

Mr D got the filet mignon which came with potato gnocchi, baby spinach and pork glaze. This dish was AMAZEBALL! The pork tenderloin was tender and juicy and the potato gnocchi, it was FANTABULOUS!!! Gosh, I loved Mr D’s dish more than mine!

Filet Mignon – $40

After our mains, we were super duper full but we soldiered on and got a dessert to share. We were told that there was chocolate mousse on the menu but when we did go to check, it wasn’t there. The staff went back to the chef to see what she could do and BAM we got the chocolate mousse (great service right there yo!). The mousse was smooth and very chocolate-ly and not sickening at all. Despite being full, I devoured the whole dish!

Chocolate Mousse – $12

The staff saw how ridiculously full we were that they gave us digestive wine on the house (AMAZEBALL!!). The food was yummo and the service was amazeball where they treat you as a regular and make you feel welcome. I’m going to have to come back for that charcuterie board with Mr D!
