Keilor East. Not a suburb that you would think of when you think of great food but let me tell you about Piggy Smalls. Piggy Smalls is a humble venue that only has outdoor seating but don’t let that deter you. Hot dogs, milkshakes, onion rings and fried chicken ribs, definitely for when you’re feeling a little bit naughty.
Pacino’s Italian Family Restaurant, Flemington
Flemington, known for the Melbourne Cup and being super close to Melbourne Zoo, they’re also popping up as a great foodie area too. Pacinos, an Italian family restaurant, known for their pizzas and friendly service is located smack bang in the middle the busy road Epsom Road. Mumsy bear and daddy bear were excited to not have to travel far in the search for a good feed. Plenty of parking in front of the venue and if it’s full, there’s a shopping centre with more parking. The venue is very spacious and feels very homely and cosy. The staff were super attentive and will immediately make you feel welcome once you step your foot in the door.
Imbue Food & Drink, Maribyrnong
Mr Burberry, of course, was still celebrating his 30th months after he actually turned 30 but we weren’t really complaining. He picked Imbue in Maribrynong since it was local for the girlies and I would be at the parentals that night. It does get quite busy so make sure you make a booking (we missed out last time). There are few parking spots in the carpark but they do get full real quick so your best bet is to park in Aldi’s carpark. Now back to the venue, it’s dim, it’s comfy and it looks a touch fancy. The staff are really friendly and treats every customer that walks in like they’re a long time friend.
Thonglor Thai Restaurant, Maribrynong
Thonglor Thai has been around for ages and is right near edgewater near Highpoint. The carpark at the front is always super busy so your best bet is to park across the road where Aldi is and walk over. They also take reservations and it does get busy so make sure you make a booking and this is a bit fancier than your normal Thai restaurant so it is a touch pricier. The staff are super duper friendly and are very attentive and will serve you with a smile on their faces.
The Corner Shop, Yarraville
Before I started my new job, I thought I’ll take mumsy bear out for a brunch date since we never really do that often. I thought I should take her to Yarraville since that’s where all the cool kids were at. We got to The Corner Shop and she absolutely loved it. The staff were friendly, the decor was just very Melburnian and she felt oh so comfy in there which was the most important part. We were seated and was handed a menu to have a flick through to decide what we were going to devour!
Brother Nancy, West Footscray
One of the stooges have been raving on and on about Brother Nancy and when I finally had a day free, I decided to meet up Mr Angry for some brunch. It didn’t look amazing in the front but it was quite cute once you step inside. When you step in, you’ll be greeted by the friendly staff and it’s quite cosy inside as well so be prepared to be saying hey to the next table!
Jasper Coffee, Maribyrnong (Highpoint Shopping Centre)
Since I had a few weeks off before I start my new job (Wooohooo!) so I decided to catch up with the Creative couple for some coffee (because we’re fancy YO!). They took me to Jasper’s Coffee in Highpoint because well, I don’t really go to coffee places since I don’t drink coffee. Anywho, we walked in, found a booth and decided what we all wanted.
Club Italia, Sunshine
We had a workies lunch date to celebrate the final days of working in the lead up to Christmas. We decided that local was the way to go and everyone can leave whenever they wished. We all voted and ended up going to Club Italia. Club Italia is located right next to Sunshine Hospital and there’s a dining area right next to the pokies. It has a real pub feeling to it so don’t come down dressed in your finest garments. We put our orders through at work and when we got there, we were seated promptly and the food came out 10-15mins later (not shabby at all). I got chicken and pumpkin risotto and this was very thick. It did look quite appetising at first but once I shoveled it (Yes, I was super hungry) into my mouth, there wasn’t a lot of flavour. Not something I would come back for.
Risotto Chicken, Pumpkin and Feta – $19.90
Arborio rice cooked with pumpkin, fetta, chicken and rocket in a vegetable stock
Dessert Story, St Albans
Dessert Story, the Taiwanese and Hong Kong Sweet franchise that opens late into the night serving teas, desserts and coffees. Dessert Story has opened up in St Albans for quite some time now and the girlies plus Mr Burberry dropped by for some drinkies.
West End Market Hotel, Sunshine North
It was Mr Hipster’s birthday (well it was the day before) and we decided to have lunch next door at the pub because, well, because pubs are Mr Hipster’s second home. Miss Mousey made a call to West End Market Hotel and pre-ordered our meals so by the time we got there, our food would be ready. Lunchtime came around and we made our way to West End for some pub grub.
