Yering Station is known for its view, winery and food so of course we had a girlies’ date there. We made a reservation 2 weeks in advance and there is ample of parking so you don’t have to worry about that. Our initial impression was WOW with the friendly front staff and how delish it smelt inside.
The spanner crab was presented beautifully and looked oh so delish! We weren’t a fan of the squid ink crumb and found the braised fennel salad to be quite overpowering. The spanner crab itself was quite fresh and very subtle in flavour.
Spanner Crab – $25
Fennel cream, squid ink crumb, braised fennel salad, coriander
We also got the quail to share and we weren’t a huge fan of this dish. There wasn’t a huge flavour jumping out of this dish. We also found a hair in one of the quail and the staff took the dish away immediately and took the dish off the bill.
Quail – $24
Apple, confit plum, rhubarb mustard, bitter leaves, candied walnut
One of the girlies got the Duck Breast and this was spectacular. It was juicy, it was flavoursome, not too salty and everything went oh so well together. It was perfect.
Duck Breast – $42
Beetroot, white balsamic, orange blossom, witlof
The carrots were so succulent and the sour cream with it was perfect. The shoe string fries weren’t crunchy and were way too salty.
Roasted dutch carrots – $11, Shoe string fries – $11
The Snapper was the market fish of the day and by golly was this AWESOME SAUCE! The fish was juicy, it was tender and the vanilla reduction was just AMAZEBALL! The pumpkin was so soft with a slight sweetness to it and the kale, I just couldn’t get enough of this dish. Definitely get this if you do come here.
Market Fish (Snapper) – $43
Kale, sage, Japanese pumpkin & vanilla reduction
We got the Watermelon dessert to share since we’re in love with anything matcha. This did not disappoint. The matcha sponge was very light and fluffy and the burnt marshmallow ice cream tastes exactly that, burnt marshmallow.
Watermelon – $17
Matcha sponge, cocoa nibs tuile, burnt marshmallow ice cream, matcha snow
Yering Station has an amazing view with a beautiful interior to match with its high ceiling and glass windows, it was just breathtaking. The service was quite slow and the attention level to our plates and water was very minimal which was disappointing. Go straight to the mains and desserts and skip the entrees. The prices are on the high end and considering that we found a hair in our entree coupled with the poor service we probably wouldn’t be back anytime soon.
