Iki Jime, Melbourne

It’s mumsy and daddy bear’s 30th anniversary so we decided to surprise them by taking the to Iki Jime, an all seafood joint by Shannon Bennett and the Vue group. So in we went and boy oh boy was the service great! The staff greeted us warmly and we got the chef’s table which sits directly to the side of the kitchen which was a touch disappointing since we thought we’ll be at the front. But the little area is secluded and it was like having our own party. So, with this table, we only had the option of the set menu and at the price of $110 per head, it was a pretty good price.

Now, starting the the moonlight flat oysters with native citrus, these were so delectably fresh. A touch on the salty side though.

Next up is a different version of fish and chips and this is AMAZING! The crispiness with the fish was just AMAZEBALLS! It was shame that we only got one each though.

The prawn cocktail was delish but we did find it to be a touch salty as well.

The hand picked spanner crab was so fresh but there wasn’t alot of meat to share around though. It was lightly seasoned and it was just absolutely perfect.

The Moreton Bay Bug tart was just awesome. The tart base was crumbly and oh so buttery and the bug, yum oh yummy!!!

The warm kingfish was so fresh and surrounded by sweetcorn, it was perfect. Ask for the bread too so you can dip it in there for some comfort. However, the bread is very salty so just scrape it off if there’s too much salt. The mussels needed a touch more seasoning.

The barramundi was grilled perfectly and it was so tender and full of flavour. Mumsy bear had the whole fish to herself and she wasn’t shy about sucking the eyeballs or eating the fish head either.

Corn lovers rejoice, the baby corn was so juicy and sweet and definitely delish. The tiger prawns on the other hand, didn’t really tickle my fancy and this needed more flavour to it.

An array of desserts came out and it was way more then what was described on the menu. From rocky road cheesecakes to ice creams to apple tart tartin, there was something for everyone. Beware though, these desserts are super duper sweet so remember to bring your sweet tooth.

Iki Jime is a great seafood eatery with awesome service and good food to match. We all enjoyed ourselves and for the price of $110 per person, you really get your bang for your buck. They had even made it special for my parents by giving them some dark chocolate and of course, everyone enjoyed it. We will definitely be back.
