The girlies wanted a catch up to hear all of my Japan stories and I found out that Dimmi has amazing 50% offers at various restaurants and they change every week so I suggested we check out Tazio for some Italiano! I made a booking and BAM we turned up on the night and it was quite busy for a Wednesday night and a lot of people were here for after work drinkies. Stepping into the eatery, the staff were warm and friendly and I was already enjoying Tazio. Since all the food were 50% off, we were definitely going to go to town.
First up, the calamari. THIS. WAS. AMAZEBALL! The calamari tasted so fresh, everything was perfectly seasoned and it was absolutely AWESOME SAUCE. Definitely a must order dish.
Calamari Fritti
Dressed with capers, olives & micro herbs on a roast garlic aioli – $13 (entree)
We also got a pizza to share which was one of the specials (I can’t quite remember what it was but I remembered it was MEATY!) and it was quite delish. The crust was crunchy but it was a tad on the salty side.
Pizza Special
Of course we got pasta to share because we LOVE PASTA! The lamb was quite strong but very tender and just melted in our mouths. However, we did find that it needed a touch more seasoning.
Pasta – $25
Lamb ragu with pappardelle pasta & parmesan
Continuing our trend of ordering way too much, we also got the scotch filet cooked medium rare. However, the steak was cooked medium which was pretty good. Loved the jus and the roasted veggies. We did need to add more sat to this dish though.
Bistecca – $34.50
300g scotch fillet steak with roasted rosemary potatoes, baby carrots, green beans & jus
Chips, chips and more chippies! We got a side of chippies and they were awesome! They were crunchy but the aioli needed a touch more flavour.
Patate Fritte – $5
Thick cut chips served with lime and chilli aioli
We couldn’t go home without having desserts so our sweet tummies took over and started swooning over the sweets selection. First up, pistachio nougat ice cream. This was very disappointing. It was very nougat-y and less on the ice cream side and everything was a tad hard.
Pistachio Nougat Ice Cream – $10
with confit vanilla orange & raspberry tuli
I was super excited for the honeycomb cheesecake but that too was disappointing. The chocolate sauce was so dense and there wasn’t anything refreshing to counter balance it. The cheese cake itself was very dense but the honycomb flavour was there which was the best thing about the dish.
Honeycomb Cheesecake – $9.50
Topped with honeycomb & chocolate sauce
Tazio has a great atmosphere, friendly staff and reasonable pricing. Some dishes were amazing while others need a touch more seasoning but I will definitely suggest Tazio for after work drinkies to the girlies again. I’d steer away from the desserts though and perhaps go for some gelato somewhere on Lygon street.
Tazio also offers a complimentary main course when you buy a main course up to $40 with the new Entertainment Book. If you are interested in purchasing the Entertainment Book for loads (and I mean LOADS) of awesome sauce foodie discounts and 20% of memberships sold will go to Sane Australia, just click here.
