Anada, Fitzroy

A tradition has started for us where I would take mumsy and daddy bear out to try a different cuisine for their anniversary or even just a night out. They’ve never tried Spanish food so I decided to check out Anada in Fitzroy. We made a reservation online and we were seated at the table by the front door.

To start off the night I got daddy bear a sangria with red wine. I’m a huge fan of sangria because it doesn’t feel like you’re having alcohol at all, it sweet and fruity and definitely something light to start off the night.

Sangria – $12

The yellowfin tuna was fresh and light.

Yellowfin Tuna, Jamon Fat, Sesame – $18

I love corn and I love cheese so when I saw that the menu has sweet corn with buffalo queso fresco, I definitely put my hand up to get it. This was pretty good. The cheese was light and fluffy and the corn was sweet with a hint of chariness.

Sweet Corn, Buffalo Queso Fresco, ‘nduja – $15

The raw lamb with with caperberry leaf and macadamia was…interesting. The lamb was very overpowering and I wasn’t a fan of it. Unfortunately daddy bear and Mr D thought the same thing.

Raw Lamb, Oyster, Caperberry Leaf, Macadamia – $18

Mr D is a massive of bone marrow and was super excited when he saw it on the menu. However, we found the bone marrow was still a gelatinous consistency and it just had such a fatty taste.

Bone Marrow, Pedro Ximenez Ox Tongue, Rye Bread – $20

The duck breast came out and it was bright pink, almost on the verge of red. I’m all for pinkish duck but this was way too pink. It was tough cutting through the duck and it had this raw taste to it which I wasn’t a fan of.

Duck Breast – $34

To end the night we got the paella with roast quail and smoked eel. When the waitress placed this dish in front of us, she said to squeeze all the lemon. Unfortunately Mr D only squeezed one lemon wedge and the smoked eel was way fishy. Daddy bear squeezed the rest of the lemon and the dish fully transformed. It went from “we can’t eat this” to “hrm not bad”. The quail was cooked perfectly and was so succulent.

Arroz Sec with Roast Quail & Smoked Eel – $40

I really wanted to like Anada but the food was really a hit and miss for me. The waitress was friendly but she wasn’t as attentive as the other waitresses and waiters on that night. Sorry Anada but we won’t be back anytime soon.
