Hawker Chan, the world’s cheapest Michelin Starred restaurant has landed in Melbourne and I was hoping that if I wait it out, the lines would eventually disappear. Unfortunately for me, I decided to go on the last day of Lunar New year and yes, there was a line and yes, we waited 40 minutes before we could get a table. When we finally got in, we I did the ordering the baby triplets went to get a table.
Hawker Chan is known for the signature chicken with rice so of course we had to get that. However, we found that it was quite disappointing where the chicken wasn’t flavoursome at all. We had such high hopes for this dish. We also had 1 piece of cucumber (come on guys, be more generous with the cucumber).
Soya Sauce Chicken with Rice – $6.80
The roasted pork was very average where you could literally find it in any asian eatery if you were craving it.
Roasted Pork with Noodles – $9.80
The pork ribs was very disappointing. We did not enjoy this at all, it was very salty and the egg noodles could not balance that out at all.
Pork Ribs with Noodles – $9.80
The best meat at Hawker Chan? Char siew was AMAZEBALLS! I could not believe it when it touched my lips, it was so juicy, it was so flavoursome, it was just AMAZING!! I could not fault the char siew at all. What about the Hor Fun you ask? Well, it was like every other Hor Fun around so that was not the star of the dish at all.
Char Siew with Hor Fun – $9.80
There is a very big hype around Hawker Chan with a long line to reflect it. However, the signature dish is quite disappointing but definitely check out the char siew, you will not be disappointed. Choose a time that’s not rush hour so you don’t have to wait long and definitely be prepared for big portions. Would I go back? Sorry Hawker Chan but I won’t be visiting any time soon.
