It was time to catch up with the baby cousins and we were wondering the streets looking for a great feed. We chanced upon Belle’s Hot Chicken and since the group comprised mostly of teenage boys, we were sure that this will satisfy them. We walked in at 8PM with a group of 9 and they didn’t have space, asking us to come back in 15mins so they can set up. Again we wondered the streets and 15minutes later, we high tailed it back and sat our tooshies down.
Our ‘Plate’ for the evening
After much contemplation, I was the designated orderer. Since we were getting the Baller Bucket, we also get to 4 sides as well. You could also order sides on its own for $5.50. Of course one of the sides were chippies and these were seasoned so well that it wasn’t too salty and tastes amazing. The chippies could be a touch crunchier and it’ll be perfect.
Old Bay FriesĀ
The 1/2 dozen hot clams came out and they were hot! Not like KFC hot and spicy hot, much hotter. They were so delish but the spiciness dominated all the flavouring for me but it was definitely a hit on the table.
1/2 Dozen Hot Clams – $15
We were slathered in sides including the Carolina slaw and pickled veggies. I wasn’t a fan of the slaw, it was a tad bland and needed more flavouring. The pickled veggies though, very pickle-ly and on point.
Carolina Slaw and Pickled Vegetables
Whilst looking through the menu, I noticed that Mac and Cheese was on the specials. THIS WAS THE BOMB! It wasn’t overly cheesy but bursting with flavour. Definitely get this if you’re a fan of mac and cheese. You will not be disappointed.
Mac and Cheese – $7; Chicken Ribs in Peach BBQ – $14
For those looking after their waistlines, I got the mushrooms with broccoli almond salad. Yes, I was laughed at by my cousins but once they took a bite of the mushrooms, complete silence ensued. The mushrooms were juicy, didn’t feel unhealthy or too fried. They were AMAZEBALL! The broccoli were average but did give some greens on our table.
Broccoli Almond Salad and Mushrooms – $14
Finally, the moment we all came for – fried chicken. There were 5 levels of hotness: southern, medium, hot, really hot and really F**kin hot. We decided to split medium and hot and the boys found the hot was way too hot for them. For all those who’d like a challenge, go for the really F**kin hot. The fried chicken was juicy and very flavoursome. I have no idea what’s in their flavouring but they’re onto a good thing here.
Baller Bucket – $65
16 wings, 4 sides and 4 sauces
Belle’s Hot Chicken does not lie, they do serve hot chicken and they are pretty damn fingerlickin good. Get your crew together, get your hands dirty and enjoy a night full of chicken and comfort food. I’ll definitely be recommending this joint to all those chicken lovers out there. Also, if you’ve got a big group, make sure you call up and make a booking or you’ll be left waiting 20+ minutes before they can find you a table.
