Yeonga Korean BBQ Restaurant, North Melbourne

It has been a while since we’ve caught up with the creative couple and Mrs Creative had a hankering for Korean so Mr D made a booking for Yeonga Korean BBQ.

Conveniently located in an alley way off Victoria Street opposite to Victoria, there’s plenty of parking around so no need to stress guys. We walked in was shown to our table immediately. When we got there, the creative couple was already there and I spied dumplings (SCORE!) sitting on the table! They had ordered steamed kimchi dumplings and we were ready to devour them. However, we found that the dumpling skin was rather doughy and very thick and couldn’t get past that taste to enjoy the kimchi filling which was a shame. They looked absolutely beautiful but taste wise, not the best thing in the eatery.

My favourite korean dish was Jap Chae and I always HAVE to order it. Yeonga did not disappoint. This jap chae was absolutely AMAZEBALL! So full of flavour and not too oily. Even Mrs Creative thought it was pretty damn delish and she’s from Korea.

We also decided to get gone with the mix BBQ which was the recommended set for 4 people which only came to $128 per person. Now, lets get this party started. The BBQ grill came out that was super cool because they had some condiments including cheese and corn, kimchi and even mash sweet potato on the sides to peck at.

The mix came with beef brisket, tenderloin, pork neck, marinated beef mix and marinated pork belly fillet. They were all oh so delish and such good quality with awesome sauce flavour. Definitely loved every piece of meat they gave us.

With the set, there’s a choice of getting one hot pot and we picked the budae jjigae. Now, this was super spicy, had noodles, lots of veggies including mushrooms, tofu and of course SPAM!! I found the broth to be more on the salty side but it sure warmed us up and I definitely loved it. We asked for a top up of broth and they charged us $2 (What??!!!).

The staff were super helpful and so polite, the atmosphere was really jamming. The gone with mix BBQ set is great value for money and you won’t be able to finish it at all. My favourite dish was the Jap Chae and I’d definitely recommend the dish. I would definitely come back to Yeonga.
