Fukuryu Ramen, Melbourne

Time for a catch up with the creative couple and Mr D decided to have ramen and thus Fukuryu Ramen here we come. It is located in a lane in Chinatown but they have a big enough sign for you to not miss it.

First thing I noticed when walking up the stairs to the eatery was the pumping music. My gosh I felt like I was in a club, it was so loud (as in doof doof loud). We got there at 12:30PM on a Saturday and thought it’ll be super busy but to my surprise, we were the second table which arrived. So you order at the counter and just pick anywhere to sit.

There’s a self serve drinking station where you can get hot water, chilled water, ambient water or even bubbly water! SO FANCY I KNOW RIGHT!!!

So Mr D and myself weren’t super hungry so we decided to get small dishes. I got the soft shell crab buns which had one chilli. It comes with two servings and OH MY GOSH it was SUPER SPICY! The spicy mayo sauce was like BAM in yo face. Don’t get me wrong, this was absolutely AMAZEBALL but be warned, if you’re like me who can’t even handle wicked wings at KFC, get your drinks on stand by.

Mr D got the pork belly rice since he LOOOOOVES pork belly AND white rice! I found it to be really dry and didn’t enjoy it. Neither did Mr D (couple tastes!). Not recommended at all.

Mrs Creative got the Panko Chicken Salad with a creamy sesame dressing. It was basically a whole cabbage in there (would have been nice if there was a variety…) with bits of noodles in it. The chicken was real good and the DRESSING! OH MY GOSH! It was so DELICIOUS!!

Mr Creative got the Black Dragon ramen which is seasoned with black pepper, squid ink and black sesame. This confused him. I was confused. We all were confused with the broth. It was really creamy and sesame but not something I’d order again….

Finally, if you pose with your food and instagram it you get a free green tea ice cream. Now I’m not a green tea fan but this ice cream was pretty good. It was creamy and so green tea-y.

Overall, I found the price to be pretty decent, the food was pretty good and the service was super quick. Next time I come back I’ll definitely try the signature Tonkotsu ramen.
