Pavlov’s Duck is a Sri Lankan influenced brunch/cafe located at the other end of Smith Street where it’s a bit more quieter. Don’t let this fool you though, when you step into the cafe, the music was pumping and you feel welcomed instantly.
This eatery was absolutely adorable and very shall I dare to say it…hipster. It has a casual feel, inviting and very Melburnian.
We were seated and waited for our food to come out! We had to get ready for a messy night since we all going to be using our hands (AWESOME SAUCE).
First up was the Thosai & Vada which were fermented crepes and spicy doughnuts and served with sambar curry and green sambal. I didn’t really enjoy crepes as much but the doughnuts, they were AWESOME!!

Next were string hoppers which were pressed noodles served with Kiri Hodi and Pol Mallung. This gets super messy but basically you just shove, dip, whatever you want and eat it. I wasn’t a huge fan of this dish, I found it to be tad bland.

At the front of the restaurant/cafe, the staff were making roti and it was AWESOME!
Next were the egg roti served with dhal and chicken curry. The chicken curry was delicious except the chicken was a tad dry. I LOVE LOVE LOOOOOVE the egg roti! It was the BOMB YO!

Next were the kottu’s which were chopped veggies, roti, spices and eggs. This was pretty YUMMO but a tad on the salty side. I got the crab kottu which was quite wet but still YUMMO nonetheless. The chicken did not disappoint either.

Next was the plain hoppers which I had with butter and sugar and it was AMAZEBALL!! So glad I listened to the staff and went for the plain one and not the egg hoppers.

Finally, dessert time. We were served curd and treacle and this was a nice surprise. When you pour the treacle over the curd (greek yoghurt) and eat it, boy was it delish!

I ordered a chai latte with the dessert (of course….duh!) and it was AMAZEBALL! You get to do everything yourself!

Great atmosphere, lovely staff and good food, there’s something to look forward to when Pavlov’s Duck opens up their doors for dinner in early January 2016.
