If you have a sweet tooth then you’ll definitely know the name Reynold Poernomo who rose to fame from Masterchef. If you’ve always wanted to visit Koi in Sydney but didn’t want to travel, I’ve got good news for you. Reynold has opened a pop-up store at Hwkr food hall along with Chanteen by Diana Chan. So of course I made it a date to visit the pop up store because well, EVERYONE LOVES DESSERTS!!!
There’s a glass cabinet at the front where there’s oh so yummilicious looking cakes and they’re available as soon as the food centre opens. The tiramisu was so light and delicate and the flavours were just magical. Mr D absolutely adored this and could not get enough of it. I got the Mango Yuzu and it was very light and refreshing where you could taste both the mango and yuzu! Definitely my fav!
Left to right: Tiramisu – $13; Mango Yuzu – $10.50
The triplets got the strawberry pillow and the creme caramel. The strawberry pillow was soft and refreshing with a very strong strawberry-ness to it, just like the mango yuzu. The creme caramel on the other hand was a bit disappointing. We didn’t enjoy the texture nor the flavours but 3/4 is still winning!
Left to right: Strawberry Pillow – $10.50; Creme Caramel – $13
For the desserts on the menu, you’ll have to come back after 5PM and so of course, we did. The moss is a must have with its delicate flavours combined with intricate techniques, it was worth its price tag. The portion is quite decent and we could not fault this dessert at all.
Moss – $18
Pistachio monte, pistachio sponge, lime nitro, apple sorbet & dulce
Mr Grey is a more refreshing and fruity dessert and again, it was AWESOME SAUCE.
Mr Grey – $12
French earl grey cremeux with strawberry, white chocolate, yuzu, yogurt sorbet, lychee & mint
The brown butter mandy was a bit more heavy but not a refreshing as the other two. It was more dense and very VERY chocolate-y.
Brown butter mandy – $10
Roasted ganache with brown gelato, madarin
The desserts did not disappoint and I will definitely be back to try EVERYTHING in the cabinet and can not wait till Mr D takes me to Sydney so I can finally try Reynold’s dessert bar!
