Seeing as we were in London, I made reservations at The Dorchester for Afternoon tea since I couldn’t be in the UK and NOT have high tea (how crazy!). We got there a tad early (15 minutes isn’t THAT early…) and waited for our table to be ready.
The promenade was so beautiful and you feel like a princess once you enter. Our table was ready and off we went on our high tea adventure.
We did the traditional high tea which was 49£ per person without any champagne (wayyyy too early for champagne for moi). First up were the savoury sandwiches and the outstanding one was definitely the roast beef. The cream cheese and cucumber didn’t tickle my fancy and the rest were pretty average.
When at high tea, you will get as much tea as you want and they come in a beautiful teapot. Just remember you don’t pour your own tea, they’ll come do it for you.
When the assorted sweets and scones came out, I was totally in my zone. Mr D, not so much but he enjoyed the sandwiches and now he can watch me enjoy my sweets. First up was the pre dessert and it was this teeny tiny thing in a teeny tiny cup and comes with a gold leaf (what?? GOLD??!!). It was so YUMMILICIOUS! Even Mr D devoured it in no time.
The scones were magnificent (yep, I just used the word magnificent) and were soooo fluffly and gorgeous. It was so good but I could only eat 1 since I also wanted the sweets. Now the sweets, the only word to describe them is HEAVEN! Everything on the plate was AMAZEBALL!
Clearly I couldn’t finish all the sweets so they put it in a takeaway box for you to carry home (how thoughtful!).
Traditional afternoon tea at the promenade at The Dorchester is an amazing experience where the service is impeccable, desserts and scones are amazing, beautiful surroundings and a pianist playing in the background. If you haven’t done afternoon tea before, this would be a great place to pop your afternoon tea cherry.
