Toro Cafe. An unassuming cafe in Mount Waverly. Frequent by local residence and those that work in the area (just like us!). We stumbled on this cafe when the restaurant we wanted to wasn’t open. We walked into Toro Cafe and boy oh boy it was such a quaint cafe. It was cosy AND the staff were super duper friendly.
To start off our lunch the sweet potato chippies came out and holy moly it was totes AMAZEBALLS! It was crispy, it was seasoned well and most of all, it was healthy since it was sweet potato!
Sweet Potato Chips – $8
I got the Toro porky burger and the flavour was spot on. Filled with pulled pork, charred pineapple, fried egg, pickles and mayo, it was sensational. It was however, a touch on the dry side.
Toro Porky Burger – $12
Slow cooked pulled pork, salad, charred pineapple, fried egg, pickles, house mayo
Two of the girlies got the egg nemo which consists of smoked salmon, poached eggs, sugarcane prawns, avo and hollandaise topping. The poached egg was cooked perfectly and oozed out yellow gold. The star of the dish was the sugarcane prawn and oh my gosh it brought me back to my childhood. It was delicious and everything about this dish was on point.
Egg Nemo – $15
Smoked salmon on grain toast with poached eggs, sugarcane prawns, avocado and hollandaise topping
Toro Cafe is a hidden gem that serves up great quality food at a very reasonable (you might even call it cheap) price. This is definitely one cafe which I’ll be visiting when I’m sick of the canteen lunches at work.
