The Views Restaurant, Halls Gap

We were in the Grampians for Ms Teeth’s birthday but we didn’t realise that we needed a booking to get into some of the restaurants. Luckily for us, there was another place 5 mins away called The Views so we dropped by for some dinner. Located in The Grampian motel, the staff were oh so friendly that we couldn’t help but smile as soon as we entered.

For starters we got the cob loaf with a trio of butters and when it came out, boy oh boy were we disappointed. It was teeny tiny and was barely enough for one person let alone for 5. Anywho, we munched away and all the butters were very similar tasting that we couldn’t tell what was what.

Oven Baked Cob Loaf Trio – $8
Cob loaf crisped in the oven served with a trio of garlic, herb & capsicum butters

I got the Spaghetti ragu and it was very hearty. It was very tomato-y and needed more seasoning.

Mario’s Spaghetti Ragu -$26
House-made spaghetti served with an Italian style rich hearty beef, tomato & herb ragu sauce

The lamb racks were a touch on the dry side but the sauce was lovely with the lamb. The seasonal veggies were, well, just veggies but the potatoes were lovely.

Pistachio Lamb Rack – $32
Lightly crumbed lamb rack served with mint sauce on a bed of mash with fresh seasonal veggies

One of the girlies asked for the medium scotch fillet and when it came out, it was a touch more rare than what she expected. The portions were huge and she absolutely loved her dish.

Scotch Fillet – $32
Locally raised Angus beef scotch fillet (300g) served with a cracked peppercorn gravy sauce  with fresh seasonal veggies

Ms Teeth got the fillet medallians and we found this to be slightly chewy.

Filletto Di Manzo – $34
Succulent eye fillet beef medallions cooked to medium-rare with worcestershire, rosemary & red wine sauce served with fresh seasonal veggies

Mr Burberry got the lamb shank and this my fellow friends was AMAZEBALL!!! It was tender, it was flavoursome it was the best dish of the whole night.

Red Wine & Rosemary Lamb Shank – $28
Lamb shank slowly cooked in red wine & rosemary sauce, served with seasonal veggies

We really wanted to love The Views because the staff were so friendly and made us feel so welcomed as soon as we stepped in. However, there were more cons than pros on the night we went. If you do find yourself strapped for a place to eat, then by all means drop by and definitely have the lamb shanks. Sorry The Views but we probably won’t be coming back anytime soon.
