Good ol’ Dimmi were having their flash deals where if you visit participating eateries you’d get 50% off food. So of course Ms Butterfree booked Bangpop because it’s been a place where she’d always wanted to visit AND we got 50% off the food bill. Made a booking via Dimmi and BAM we were in and we were eating.
We arrived and was seated and the staff were friendly but they weren’t all that attentive. We did have to wave them down a few times to get our order which was quite disappointing. Anywho, we ordered our dishes and waited for them to arrive so we can devour them. First up, the moo dad diew which was the air dried pork with sticky rice. We found this to be quite dry and needed a bit more seasoning.
Moo Dad Diew (one sun pork) – $9.90
Air dried pork with Sriracha cucumber and sticky rice
One of the girls loved curry and got the gaeng penang nua which had wagyu beef check with salt prawns. This was FANTABULOUS. Very flavoursome and recommend this dish.
Gaeng penang nua – $28.90
Penang curry of slow cooked Robbins Island Wagyu beef cheek with salted prawn & snake beans
I am a massive fan of tom yum and I was so ecstatic when I saw tom yum on the menu. This was a bit of a variation of the original tom yum which was more creamy but it was still great nonetheless. Very light, very flavoursome and most importantly, very spicy! Loved this!
Dtom Yum Goong – $17.90
Creamy style spicy & sour soup with king prawn, lemongrass, lime leaf, king brown mushroom & galangal
Finally, to freshen us up we got the papaya salad which too was quite spicy. The garlic flavour was quite strong but the table absolutely adored this salad.
Som Tum Thai – $16.90
Issan green papaya salad with chilli, lime, dried shrimp, garlic & peanuts
There was a dessert menu which isn’t shown on the website and since we had a majority of girls, our dessert tummies rotated into shift. This panna cotta was a touch on the hard side and wasn’t jiggly at all which was very disappointing. We weren’t a fan of it and we didn’t end up finishing it.
Panna Cotta
Bangpop! It did Bang and Pop but not at all the right places. Some dishes were exceptional, others not so much. Would I come back? Well, no since the service wasn’t great and the food was quite average. Sorry Bangpop.
