Shanghai Street Dumplings, Melbourne

Miss Tay Tay was having her 1989 tour tonight and Miss Asian Fusion and I decided to have a quick meal before we ‘shake it off ooooh’. Miss Asian Fusion took me to her little fav spot for dumplings – Shanghai Street Dumplings.

There were only 2 people in the queue which was I was informed by Miss Asian Fusion was a VERY short line. About 10 minutes later, we were shown to our little table and started to order. First up was Miss Asian Fusion’s all time fav – pan fried chicken and prawn dumplings. They were slightly crispy on the bottom and I thought it was a bit average so I just let Miss Asian Fusion have most of it.

Next, my beloved xiao long bao (GOD, I LOVE THESE LITTLE HEAVEN) and my gosh they were GINORMOUS! It was pretty hard for me to shove the whole thing in my mouth but I still managed (take that huge as dumpling). I thought they were a bit too large and it was kind of average as well.

Xiao Long Bao (pork) – $9.80 (8pc)

Finally, the last dish was the Shanghai Fried Noodles which included shredded pork and veggies. It was super oily and very low on the pork and veggies (come on guys….). They did give you heaps of noodles though, oodles of noodles. We weren’t able to finish the whole thing and they did offer to take it away but we thought it would be a bit awkward taking it out at T-sizzle’s concert…Not a dish I’d recommend but each to their own.

It’s a pretty decent place for cheap eats but if you gotta wait more than 20 minutes, I don’t think it’s worth the wait.
