Aunty Franklee, Hawthorn

Aunty Franklee has been around for while and it’s known for its authentic Malaysian dishes. With two stores located in Hawthorn and Melbourne CBD, you know it’s good when they just keep popping up around Melbourne. The Hawthorn venue is located on the busy Burwood road and it is a tad difficult finding parking as they are all time limited. Pushing through the doors into the venue, you’re greeted by friendly staff and the delicious aroma of food cooking!

Young and Foolish, Wheelers Hill

It was Ms Curly Fries last day at work and we headed over to Young and Foolish for a goodbye lunch. It was a nice little cafe, convenient and we got the private area out back which was quite intimate and secluded. The staff were super friendly, accommodating and very patient considering that there were 12 of us there. They got our orders quick smart and we didn’t wait long till our food came out.

Minh Ky, Springvale

We were down in the Springvale area and I was getting super hungry so Mr D took me to the place where everyone goes to have vietnamese food – Minh Ky. It was super busy all the time but we managed to have our lunch at 2PM and there were still 3 tables full. There were menus hanging on the walls but you also get a physical menu with loads more options.

Hung Phat, St Albans

Hung Phat use to be called Ha Long and is also now under new management. This is the gang’s usual spot for when we wanted to catch up over cheap food and welcome to stay as long as we like. However, this wasn’t the case when we went here on a saturday night. It was only 8PM and it was empty, hardly any customers and we got a table for 5 immediately. I ordered wonton soup with egg noodles (LOVE THEM WONTONS) and it was a bit below average.

Your Thai Rice and Noodle Bar, Melbourne

I have been here a couple of times and decided to come here for cheap eats and quick service.  My usual dish is the green curry (LOVE!!!!) but I thought I’ll be different and try something else on the menu, Tom Yum Noodle Soup with chicken.  Tom Yum soup doesn’t traditionally come with noodles of any sort but this dish came with vermicelli noodles.  The soup base was very average and I think the noodles were overkill.  I also got the durian smoothie (yes, some people find it stinky but I think it’s the best smell in the world!) and I quite enjoyed it.
