Ma Long Kitchen and Dumplings, Mulgrave
Dragon Hotpot – Swanston St, Melbourne
I’m not a huge fan of hotpot so when the girlies from my old work place wanted to catch up over hotpot, I hesitated but of course agreed to our little outing. We were meeting up at Dragon Hotpot on Swanston street and luckily it wasn’t super busy on a Wednesday night. It’s quite a small venue so there isn’t a lot of seating so guys, first in first served and there’s usually a long line of customers trying to get a table.
Drumplings, Melbourne
I have heard so many good things about this cheeseburger dumplings at drumplings so of course I had to go and try it. We visited on a Tuesday at 5pm (yep, we’re like old grannies that loves to eat early) and there’s already quite a few tables that were reserved. Luckily for us, we were there early so we snagged a table. The staff were friendly and welcoming once walking in and boy was it hot in there. It reminded us of being on a tropical island and the interior just makes me feel oh so happy.
Block 7 Dumplings, Ringwood – Eastland Shopping Centre
Whenever I have Xiao Long Bao cravings I always head to Forest Hill. However, I found out that there’s a new dumpling place in Eastland that also serves XLB AND it’s closer to home. So I convinced (by convinced I kinda made him) Mr D to take me on a dumpling date. It’s located near the cinemas and right opposite to Gami and there were plenty of seats (I guess it’s because we went in midday in the middle of the week). The ordering process is so easy, there’s a clipboard on your table, you fill in what you want and BAM hand it over to the staff and they’ll bring the food out to you. So no required interaction at all.
Chinacy, South Yarra
Chapel Street, known for their restaurants, bars and clubs has a new baby in town, Chinacy. Chinacy, a fusion of Chinese food served with an Australian attitude with a harmonious flow from the food to the service. So I was super stoked when I received an invite to attend the dinner launch.
Vegie Hut Vegetarian Restaurant, Boxhill
A date with the girlies meant time to check out a new eatery. Since we were slowly trying to go meat free, I suggested Vegie Hut in Boxhill. This place gets super busy so make sure you make a reservation and parking is quite difficult so perhaps park a bit further away and walk in. Now, back to business, walking inside we were greeted by friendly staff and was shown to our table. Settling in, we started to flick through the menu and decided on what we were getting.
Double Happiness Bar, Melbourne
After dinner it was only 8PM so we decided to head over to a bar for some drinkies since we were still young and hip. One of the guys in the group suggested double happiness and of course we just pitter pattered into the bar. It was hidden away with the large double happiness sign in front in Chinese characters. Pushing the doors inside, we went in and was greeted with awesome sauce decor.
Supper Inn, Melbourne
Mumsy and Daddy Bear wanted to take us out for midnight congee so they took us to their hangout joint Supper Inn. Supper Inn has been around FOREVER and they are known to serve up midnight congee and are open into the wee hours of the morning. When we arrived, the restaurant was 3/4 full and luckily we didn’t need to wait to get a seat. Located in an alley way, it may seem dodgy but it is well known for those who are peckish and do not want maccas or kebabs. We got the menu and of course mumsy and daddy bear got congee.
The congee was well congee. The parents found it to be exactly like how it use to be, average. It was soupy and needed salt and pepper added to it.

HuTong Dumpling Bar, Melbourne
Mr D had a lunch wedding and since I was his plus 1, I got to go too (woohoo!). After a day of eating and drinking in the city, we decided that we needed to refuel and dun dun dun….dumplings were on the agenda. The renown dumplings in Melbourne were at HuTong Dumpling Bar and so off we went inside to fulfill our dumplings desire.
Baowie, Forest Hill (Forest Hill Chase Shopping Centre)
After an adventure at Lollipop’s for Mr D’s birthday bash, we were all in need of some lunchies! We were led to Baowie (such a cutie patootie name) and I was super excited because I LOVE xiao long bao!
