Little Rogue, Melbourne

It was date day and Mr D took me to a little hidden cafe in Melbourne CBD (he knows I love those hidden places) and it looked like it was literally in someone’s teeny house. We stepped in and the decor was amazingly adorable with little pot plants everywhere. Be warned though, there is very limited seating (in other words real cosy). We were lucky enough to found a table and ordered our coffees! My latte was pretty good, not amazing but still very decent. Look how cute the swan is though (YAY!!).

Satu Produk Durian, Melbourne

So I walked past this place in Chinatown on an outing and decided to make a date with a friend to come here since we both LOVE durian (KING OF THE FRUITS!! YEAAAH). We got here late on a Wednesday night and it wasn’t particularly busy. We found a table and looked through the menu. I got myself a durian smoothie (such a sucker for it, seriously) and my friend got the durian mille crepe. I found the smoothie to be very disappointing, it tasted literally like milk with a teeny tiny hint of durian. Where was the durian flavour? Where was the amazing exotic fruit? Dun dun dunnnn….disappointment was what I got. My friend’s Durian Mille Crepe was actually pretty good. You could taste the durian.

Hardware Societe, Melbourne

I finally got to come here for lunch and of course was expecting a huge queue (as you do in Melbourne these days…sigh) and of course there was.  We put our name down and 20 minutes later we got a table (had to share the huge table but who cares, we’re in!).

I got the baked eggs Duex which comes with chorizo, potato, piquillo peppers, queso mahon, toasted almonds, creamy aioli and EGGS!!! This was amazing! Such a winter warmer and careful, because the pot is HOT(don’t burn yourself like I did). Must get dish! Sure it’s filling but isn’t that why you came here? To get full!!

Milk the Cow, Carlton

It’s Sunday noon and guess where we’re heading, to have some cheese and wine for LUNCH (how fancy is that yo??)! There is two locations – St Kilda and Carlton and we were booked in for the Carlton one for the 12PM session which goes for two hours. So out of the dreary Melbourne weather (windy and rainy all day…) and into the licensed Fromagerie we go.

Zest 89, Glen Waverley

After having a girls night, we decided to head to Zest 89 for breaky! Walked in at 10am (yeah maybe brunch…!) and was greeted warmly and seated immediately. The decor was so cute with pot plants everywhere. We were handed the menu and began selecting our dishes.

I got a spicy chai latte (spicy?? what??) and when it came it, it was just a chai latte with more chai sprinkled on top (basically just a chai latte…strange…). Anywho, this was pretty good and I gulped it down in a flash.

Auction Rooms, North Melbourne

I agreed with a friend to come here at 9:30am (that would be my breakfast…) and when I got there, it was fully packed. Luckily my friend got there super early and got a table for us (YAY). I ordered the breakfast board of grilled chorizo, ocean trout croquette, feta, avocado puree, a soft-boiled egg with rye soldiers and a white iced coffee. THIS WAS AMAZEBALL! The soft-boiled egg was perfectly cooked and the yolk was so runny and the ocean trout croquette, YUMMO!!!

Industry Beans, Fitzroy

It’s time for a catchup with the creative couple (yes they are so creative in their own way that we’ll just call them the creative couple) again and I was in charge of picking a place yet again. This time, Industry Beans located in Fitzroy.

It’s located in a shed/warehouse/hipster-y place and they don’t take bookings. Luckily for us, the creative couple turned up early and by the time we got there, we walked straight in (like a boss) and sat down. We ordered our coffees and chai latte (both was pretty average) and gossiped for a while. I took forever to decide what to get and finally (YES FINALLY) I got the Tamarind Blue Swimmer Crab with crispy prawns, green apple, lychee, thai herb omelette. THIS. WAS. ABSOLUTELY. MOUTHWATERING-LY (yes not a word, I know). AMAZEBALL!

Cobb Lane, Yarraville

We had a double date for lunch and I was responsible for finding a venue. Took a random stab and chose Cobb Lane in Yarraville since I love the smell of fresh bread in bakeries. They don’t take bookings so we decided to turn up at noon (should have thought this through more carefully) but luckily we got a table just as we arrived. The place is very small and cosy and as you step in you just smell the bread (mmmm bread).

Hammer & Tong 412, Fitzroy

My friends decided they wanted to head to Hammer & Tong for lunch and of course they only do bookings for dinner (head online) and walk-in for lunches. So I got there early with Mr D and they wouldn’t seat or consider us until everyone in our party was there (booo they were only 5 minutes away) so we sat by the coffee bar and waited patiently (without any choice….sigh). Finally, they arrived and we got a table within 5 mins (WOOOOHOOOO). Took our jackets off (so hot) and got seated. I ordered a Chai Latte (my adult coffee substitute that won’t make me hyperactive) and when it came out it was the most exciting thing I saw. The honey on the side was in a little beaker (SCIENCE WOOOOOO). Mixing in the honey into the latte, it was pretty damn good!

Vyve Cafe & Restaurant, Heidelberg

Came here for a quick lunch before an outing and was not disappointed.  The menu looked amazing! Since it was a cold and dreary day, I got the hot chocolate and it came with one marshmallow. I found that it was chocolate-y enough for me and needed to add some sugar to sweeten it.
