Flovie Florist Cafe, Carlton

Flovie Florist Cafe is the new baby in Carlton, newly opened for 6 weeks and already there’s a queue on the outside. A place for brunch AND to buy flowers, it’s definitely a new concept in Melbourne and we’re loving it. It’s a very instagrammable cafe where it’s easily accessible, there’s a lot of pros to this place already. We arrived just before 10AM on a Sunday and got a table straight away because if we arrived even 5 minutes later, we would have been lining up outside.

I have never heard of Butterfly pea tea so when I saw this on the menu, I knew I had to try it. Butterfly pea tea is found in Southeast Asia and packed full of antioxidants. It’s blue in colour and changes colour depending on the pH level of the liquid (how cool is that??!!!). When my latte came out, it was bright blue and defs prettttttyyyyy!! It was very earthy tasting with a hint of vanilla, it wasn’t what I expect it to be. It was unique but I probably try the Rose tea latte next time.

Butterfly Pea Latte – $7
Butterfly pea tea, vanilla, sea salt, soy milk

Mr D got the snow white mocktail and HOLY MOLY FRIGGING GOSH it was beautiful. It’s a DIY mocktail so the “perfume” bottle tops up your drinkie and the little glass was yep, you guessed it, butterfly pea tea to make it more mesmerising. We found the overall mocktail to be quite diluted and the lychee and strawberry rose flavour didn’t get to shine through which is a shame.

Snow White “Perfume” Mocktail – $9
Lychee, strawberry rose, butterfly pea, edible flowers

Let’s move on to the food! Mr D got the chorizo egg scramble

Chorizo Egg Scramble – $18.50
Spanish chorizo, aioli yogurt, chipotle raisin relish, coriander, parmesan, sourdough toast

I got the cha siu pulled pork and eggs benny and it was DELISH! The egg yolks were cooked perfectly and oozed right out AND that pulled pork had the cha siu flavour spot on. The mandarin hollandaise was light and not sickening at all, the perfect amount. I wasn’t a huge fan of the pan fried mantou because it was a touch hard for my liking but overall, I defs loved this dish.

Cha Siu Pulled Pork & Eggs Benny – $20
Mandarin hollandaise, pan fried mantou, fresh cucumber, pickles, fried shallots

To end our brunch date we got the signature Flovie black forest hotcakes. THIS. WAS. TOTES. AMAZEBALLS! The hotcakes weren’t super fluffy BUT they were light and very chocolate-y. It wasn’t overly sweet and it was defs dark chocolate and Mr D was in heaven and he is not a sweet person at all. The mascarpone chantilly was fantastic and smooth. I can go on and on about this dish so you know what, check it out yourself. Both Mr D and I give it a thumbs up and definitely recommend this dish.

Flovie Black Forest Hotcakes – $20
Cherry compote, chocolate creme anglaise, cherry chocolate ganache, mascarpone chantilly, chocolate soil

Flovie Florist Cafe is a great concept – florist and cafe together. It’s so pretty on the inside and smells amazing too. It does get super busy so I recommend you getting there at 10AM before there’s a massive queue. The drinkies are instagrammable AND the food is on point. I can’t stop thinking about those hotcakes *drools*.
