Bun Bun Bakery, Springvale
I’m a Nhu Lan kinda gal when it comes to banh mi thit so when someone says to check out a Vietnamese pork roll joint, my mind instantly goes into using Nhu Lan as the standard. Bun Bun Bakery wasn’t too busy when we got there. Like every other Banh Mi joint, it doesn’t have seating and it’s a quick in and out kinda place.
I went up to the counter and ordered my usual – Banh mi with cold meats, siu mai and veggies (no lettuce, tomatoes or any of that). However, there wasn’t anymore siu mai left which threw me off. The staff suggested to replace the siu mai with crackling roast pork with gravy, so I did, for $5.50. I decided to treat myself and got the tiger roll for an extra $1. The roll was so crunchy, buttery and fluffy which is a definite a plus. Lets talk about fillings, not feelings. There was literally one slice of each type of cold meats which is a no go for me, I like my cold meat selections in duplicate so it’s even throughout the roll. The roast pork? The skin was quite crunchy but the pork was so fatty I couldn’t taste the meat which was a shame. The gravy was delish though.
Now, the service was AMAZING. I ordered for myself and Ms Curly Fries but they put the wrong thing in and I had to keep reminding them, they were fixing my order on the spot and still smiling. That’s what I call service.
The roll itself was delish but the filling was average. I wasn’t a fan of the roast pork which is a shame seeing as the roast pork is one of their signature rolls.
