Shinbashi Yakiniku, Carlton

The stooges plus Ms Pear decided it was was time to check out the new Japanese BBQ Shinbashi located in the heart of Lygon Street. We made a booking online, turned up and BAM got to our table and looked over the menu. We were there for lunch on a Sunday and there was only one floor staff looking after all the tables. Poor thing was running around like a headless chook BUT he was so friendly, polite and very attentive.

We were given complimentary chicken soup and it wasn’t amazing, it tasted like hot water with a pinch of chicken flavour. BUT it was lovely of them to supply complimentary chicken soup nonetheless.

Complimentary Chicken Soup

The takoyaki (octopus balls) were pretty good with chunks of octopus inside and a bounciness on the outside.

Takoyaki – $9.90

We got a plate of pork belly and the combination veggies which includes corn, pumpkin, shitake, onions and capscium. The pork belly was quite average but the veggies were a disappointment. The veggies weren’t fresh, had no seasoning and was very bleh which was a shame.

Pork Belly – $14.90
Combination veggies – $14.90

The Wagyu deluxe trio included oyster blade, short ribs and marbled beef but it was a touch on the exy side. The quality? It wasn’t too bad, I expected it to melt in my mouth a touch more though.

Wagyu Deluxe Trio – $49.90
Wagyu oyster blade premium, wagyu short rib, wagyu marbled beef

I really wanted to love this place, the staff were absolutely a delight and we love Japanese food. However, due to the poor veggies quality and average meat quality, we probably won’t be running back here anytime soon.
