Drumplings, Melbourne

I have heard so many good things about this cheeseburger dumplings at drumplings so of course I had to go and try it. We visited on a Tuesday at 5pm (yep, we’re like old grannies that loves to eat early) and there’s already quite a few tables that were reserved. Luckily for us, we were there early so we snagged a table. The staff were friendly and welcoming once walking in and boy was it hot in there. It reminded us of being on a tropical island and the interior just makes me feel oh so happy.

Of course we had to try the famous cheeseburger dumplings and you can imagine how excited we were. Unfortunately we were disappointed. The dumpling skin was very thick and chewy and the filling was all mushed up like mince. Now don’t get me wrong, there was a cheeseburger taste but gave a weird after taste and the overall texture was not pleasant at all.

Cheeseburger Dumplings (5pc) – $12
Beef pattie, cheese, pickles, mustard, sesame seeds

I’m a massive fan of xiao long baos and I always have it at every dumpling place. When they came out they were small and cutie patootie. A problem though, there wasn’t a spoon around to eat these juicy juicy dumplings so every time we ate it, they soup just comes out and everything just falls apart. The filling was again a mushy texture with no firmness to it and the flavour wasn’t as strong.

Xiao Long Bao (6pc) – $8
Pork, ginger, soup, sesame, spring onion

We absolutely adore truffles and mushrooms so what could be more amazing then truffles and mushrooms in dumpling form? The dumpling skin was very chewy and the inside was very mushroomy and wasn’t strong truffle flavour at all. It was a very mince and mushy filling and we weren’t able to finish it off.

Truffle Mushroom Dumplings (4pc) – $12
Field mushroom, black truffle, green peppercorn, truffle oil

Finally the pork belly bao burger sliders came out and the baos were oh so fluffy and sweet. The pork belly was a touch on the dry but the kewpie mixed with the hoisin and cucumber were delish.

Bao Burger Sliders (2pc) – $9
Crispy skin pork belly, hoisin, spring onion, kewpie, cucumber

We really wanted to love drumplings but unfortunately it didn’t tickle our fancy which was a shame. Sorry drumplings but I’ll be dumpling myself silly at other eateries.
