Mad Ram Cafe, Croydon

Since becoming a local in the outer eastern suburbs, I have been slack on checking out the local brunch places. So when the girlies came down for a hike and needed to refuel, I suggested Mad Ram Cafe since I’ve been seeing good things on the good ol’ instagram. Located in a strip of shops, there’s plenty of parking so don’t fret.

Walking in we were greeted by the friendly staff and a very sleek decor. We were initially seated outside but saw a table had cleared up inside and the lovely staff moved us with no hassle at all. Sitting down we went through the menu and ordered so quickly, like our lives depended on it. To start off the morning I got the chai latte and boy was it smooth and flavoursome. Definitely warmed me straight up.

Chai Latte – $5

One of the girlies got the mad brekky, so basically the big breakfast. It was did have a great variety but there wasn’t any mushrooms that day which was quite disappointing. It was hearty, it was filling and she absolutely loved it.

The Mad Brekky – $22
Two fried hens egg, house made sausage, mushroom, bacon, vine tomato, hash brown, red wine jus

I got the corn and kimchi fritters and I found the fritters to be quite hard with not a lot of corn in there. The overall dish was quite salty which was a shame because I’m a huge fan of corn fritters.

Corn & Kimchi Fritters – $18
Avocado puree, salmon gavlax, pickled zucchini sugar snap peas, chilli jam

Finally the last chickadee got the eggs benny which also has braised pork and pork crackle. This is a very heavy dish and it’s quite meaty. Overall flavour was great, the beef was tender and that poached egg was egg-cellent.

The Eggs Benny Kinda Guy – $20
Master stock braised pork benedict, potato hash, two poached hens eggs, hollandaise, pork crackle

Mad Ram Cafe is a local cafe which serves up mean coffees. However, it did take a while for us to receive our food and they also didn’t put through a latte which we ordered at the beginning of the meal. Foodwise, we enjoyed the mad brekky and the benny kinda guy but the fritters, not so much. I’ll definitely be back for a coffee or a hot drinkie.
