Humble Rays, Carlton

The girlies decided to have a brunch date and took us to their fav brunch place – Humble Rays. Since we were visiting on a Sunday, there were plenty of free parking around (so don’t worry about parking yo!) and we managed to nab a table for 6 at 11:30AM. It does get busy so make sure you’ll be willing to wait! The interior was vibrant and calming and of course had little ‘rays’ of sunshine decorated throughout. The staff were super duper friendly and made us feel oh so comfortable from what we ordered to the quantity ordered.

My eyes spied a Hojicha latte and of course I went for that. Hojicha is a Japanese green tea but it’s roasted instead of steamed like other green teas so it gives a touch of smokiness to it. The latte was AWESOME SAUCE. It was warm and comforting and of course rich in flavour.

Hojicha Latte – $5

When I saw the Cold Soba bowl, I couldn’t resist and luckily for me, it was healthy too which was a bonus. This was absolutely AMAZEBALL! It was fresh, it was healthy and it was bursting with flavour. Remember to mix everything together because boy oh boy was I in love.

Cold Noodle Soba Bowl  – $17.50
Cold noodle salad, cucumber, quinoa, sweet corn kernel tomato, seasonal sprouts, seaweed, sesame, tofu, radish, sweet pickles, sweet chili ponzu dressing
(poached eggs +$2)

Mr D got the crab meat scramble and found it to be very rich and after the 3rd bite, there was way too much for him. The croissant was a bit soggy from being next to the eggs which was a bit disappointing since he was looking forward to the flaky buttery goodness that comes from a croissant. Oh he did have one issue, the portions were just too large and he couldn’t finish (is that a bad thing??).

Crab Meat Scramble – $18.50
Crab meat scramble eggs, Asian herbs, fried shallot, Sriracha mayo, red chili, chili oil served with croissant

We all got the French Toast to share and my gosh, if you are a sweet tooth, this is a must go to dish. It was so fluffy, it was so decadent and it was TOTES AMAZEBALL! It was so visually appealing and it made us happy just staring at it.

French Toast Forever – $19
vanilla bean cream cheese stuffed french toast, boysenberry ice cream, seasonal fruits, Persian fairy floss, Walnut & almond oat cruble, seasonal coulis

Finally, we got the Green Tea Skookie and I wasn’t sure how I felt about this. It was gooey from the marshmallow and the matcha wasn’t as strong in flavour and the whole dish was a touch too sweet for a green tea dish.

Green Tea Skookie – $12.50
Green tea double chocolate chip cookie, house-made marshmallow, Vanilla ice-cream, Matcha cookie crumbs

I absolutely adored Humble Rays and their dishes were top notch. I will definitely be back to check out the rest of the menu and you can be sure that you won’t be hungry after brunching here.
