With having a new job near Christmas means Christmas lunches are due and our lunch was at Vanilla in Oakleigh. On a Tuesday lunch, my gosh, finding parking was hectic so I’d recommend you park where Coles is. Now, back to the restaurant, it was buzzing like mad and there were so many people and so many things going on. Vanilla is a ginormous restaurant with a lounge downstairs and a restaurant upstairs. Once you walk in, you’ll be greeted with the sweets cabinet by the counter.
Now, to start off lunch I got a chai latte and boy oh boy was this lovely and smooth (I accidentally stirred my drinkie then took a photo of me. How silly!)
Chai Latte – $4.50
Since we were in a Greek restaurant, I had to get moussaka and I’ve only ever had this twice and I’ve loved it each time. This time however, I found it to need more seasoning and I could not find the eggplant anywhere at all. It was disappointing but the good news is that the portions were GINORMOUS!
Moussaka – $22.50
Layered & baked dish with eggplant, potato, zucchini, mince beef & bechamel sauce served with a side salad
I got the Bougatsa to finish off lunch and this was oh so lovely. It came out warm with a light fluffy pastry with a lovely touch of custard inside. I absolutely adored this!
Filo Pastry Envelope filled with Semolina Custard. Dusted with Icing Sugar and Cinnamon
One of the girls got the mille feuille and this was AWESOME SAUCE too! The custard was to die for but I found the flaked pastry to be a touch too hard.
Layers of puff pastry filled with French Vanilla Custard. Topped with Fresh Cream, Flaked Almonds and Flaked Pastry
I absolutely enjoyed the desserts here and the Moussaka was quite disappointing. However, the service was horrible. They kept forgetting to bring things out, did not get all our orders or only got one drink order and left. Would I come back? I’ll drop by to get some sweets for takeaway but I would not go and eat inside the establishment due to the service which I experienced that day.
