Mr Burberry and I were due for a gossip sesh and I have heard good things about a local (well, almost local) cafe – Dumbo in West Footscray. It was off the main street which meant there were ample of parking. However, this is a teeny tiny joint = limited seating = high chance of a long wait time. Luckily for me, I snagged a table indoors and waited for my date to turn up. 

To start off the day I got the maple matcha and I really didn’t know what I was expecting. It just tasted like a sweetened matcha. I couldn’t really taste the maple in it. It came with such a cutie patootie spoon, felt like I was part of the wizarding world.

Maple Matcha – $5

We absolutely adore chai lattes and this was pretty damn good. Strong intense chai flavour in a smooth and creamy base. LOVE THEM!!

Chai Latte – $4.50

For lunch I got the truffled mushrooms and the mushrooms were cooked perfectly. Loved the hint of truffles and I especially loved the crunchy kale! The poached eggs? They were yolk-ilicious and oozed straight out when I poked them with my knife!

Mr Burberry got the potato fritters with a poached egg on the side (the egg is an additional $2 guys!). He felt very bleh about this dish and I wasn’t a fan of the tomato medley, found it too be quite pickle-y and sour. We felt like it was missing something else but couldn’t quite put our finger on it.

Dumbo has been around for quite a while now and is always busy. I’m not too sure how I feel about this place, I enjoyed the mushrooms but was disappointed with Mr Burberry’s dish. Enjoyed the chai latte but not the maple matcha. I’m in a very confuzzled state of mind and cannot decide which way to lean in regards to Dumbo. Love the service and hospitality though! Top notch!
