Mr & Mrs Anderson, Hawthorn East

Mr & Mrs Anderson a new cafe which opened in December 2016 which makes it quite fresh on the blockin Hawthorn East. With a focus on sustainability and the majority of produce that is used are from their farm in Moe and straight onto the plate in the cafe. What’s even more impressive? The chef comes from Michelin starred restaurants and have worked in amazing Australian eateries including Attica, 3 bags full and circa just to name a few. The chef is bringing fine dining to cafes and it definitely shows in Mr & Mrs Anderson. Now, back to the eatery itself. We dropped by on a Sunday at 1PM and it was still quite busy. Lots of street parking so there’s no need fret over parking. If you love being in the great outdoors, there’s an outside section but we noticed that there wasn’t any outdoor heaters so pack a jacket if you can’t get a seat inside.

Mr D got the usual latte and found it to be very smooth with a light roasty flavour. He mentioned that it could be a touch stronger but then he sure does love his coffee hit.

Latte – $3.80

For those who love their green juices, your eyes are going to light up. There is a green juice on the menu and get this, the ingredients change every single day and it all depends on what fresh produce they have on the day. Lucky for me, I got the last one of the day and my gosh, it was super fresh, super healthy and super delicious. LOVED IT!

Green Juice – $7.50

Mr D got the battered fish burger and this was AMAZEBALL! The bun was soft and fluffy with a slight sweetness to it. The fish patty had a crispy batter and was very light, was not too oily and didn’t feel heavy at all. The triple cooked fries were AWESOME SAUCE, super duper crunchy but the only downside is that they only give you 4 pieces so order fries on the side if you’re a fries fan. Everything on that dish complemented each other and it was just oh so amazing.

Continuing on a green theme, the smoked salmon came with veggies, poached eggs, crushed peas and walnut pesto. I was a big fan of this dish. The poached egg was yolk-i-licious and oozed out mixing all the ingredients together. The veggies were very fresh and the mushrooms were amazing. My favourite thing? The crushed peas. They were FANTABULOUS!

Finally, the insta-worthy caramelized dark chocolate brioche was placed in front of us. It was so vibrant with a lot of flavours including freshness to rich chocolate. The truffles were very rich but it matched so well with the sorbet and fresh berries. The chocolate brioche was fluffy and very chocolate-y. If you have a sweet tooth, this is the dish for you.
