Anglers Tavern, Maribyrnong

Angler’s Tavern is a pub located on the Maribrynong river in Melbourne’s West had a makeover and my work decided to have a function there (woohoo!). The big boss got the private room with the three course meal which was pretty fancyyyy. The view was fantabulous (well, as fantabulous as the Maribyrnong could be) and the staff were awesomely friendly. While having drinkies, the staff had placed a meat/cheese/dip platter for nibbles and this was very enjoyable. I nibbled away all night on these until my food came out.

My absolutely favourite part was the bread. It was amazingly soft, smells divine and it was buttery and sweet already. It was like eating a buttery cloud and I couldn’t get enough of it.

I had the cajun chicken medallions and this was very dry. The couscous was a touch on the bland side as well. The mint yoghurt complemented the chicken nicely but the yoghurt:chicken ratio was way off. Be a bit more generous with the mint yoghurt guys.

I also had chicken for my main (chicken again?) and yes, the breast was also dry. There wasn’t a lot of chorizo stuffed inside the breast and everything was a touch on the bland side and it required A LOT of salt and pepper to bring out any flavour at all.

My workmate had the Black Angus Scotch and this wasn’t too bad. They said it was going to be medium rare, it came out well done It was a touch on the touch side but I preferred this over the chicken breast.

Finally, dessert came out and it was the good ol’ sticky date pudding. You can never go wrong with this dessert and yep, this was pretty darn good. Although, they did say it was going to have fresh strawberries and I found only one strawberry sitting there.

Angler’s Tavern new interior and exterior is beautiful and is a perfect place to grab a beer with a great view. Come for drinks but don’t stay for the food because everything was either dry or quite bland. Sorry Angler’s Tavern but looks doesn’t do it for me anymore, you’ve got to have personality too.

    1. The sweet potato chunks didn’t really have any flavour to them and was super dry. But do drop by if you want some nice scenery when you’re having drinks. Just don’t go for the food.
