Bistro Guillaume, Southbank (Crown Casino Complex)

Date night again and this time Mr D surprised me and took me to Bistro Guillaume at Crown Casino Complex. Yes, we’re having french in preparation for our Paris trip (wooohooo!). You’ll know which one it is, it’s the most greenest restaurant (EXCITEMENT!!).

The staff were so friendly and we were seated right away. We did have a reservation though so if you want to dine here, it’s recommended to make a booking before hand (Mr D only booked 2 weeks in advance so don’t stress).

We got an entree to share (we have realised after being together for 4 years that we over order…) which was the steak tartare with pommes gaufrettes (yes I can now eat raw things too…YAY!). This was soooo amazingly good! You don’t even know you’re eating raw steak. It had a sweet twing to it but SOOO GOOD!! Get this dish if you don’t mind having steak tartare!

Steak Tartare with Pommes Graufrettes – $24

For my main course, I got the leg of duck confit with peas, shallots and lardons. This was pretty average. The duck was a tad dry but other than that, nothing to complain about.

Leg of Duck Confit with Peas, Shallots and Lardons – $40

Now, Mr D went for the specials and he got the Beef Daube which was beef cheek with chutney and paris mash in red wine jus. This was really YUMMO!!! EVERYTHING WAS FANTABULOUS!! The cheek was sooooo tender and I especially loved the paris mash (I’m a sucker for mash!!) and this has taken over the Aria mash (which held number 1 for years in my belly!). I was so jelly that I didn’t order this but Mr D knows the rules, sharing is caring!

Beef Daube – $40

Since I was super jealous for not having mash we ordered that on the side while having our mains and the lovely staff nicked it from another table for us (my hero!).

Paris Mash – $9

I’ve always wanted to try Ratatouille ever since the movie came out (yes inner child I know!). Since it was date night I got whatever I wanted. This did not disappoint! It was a mixture of veggies in a tomato based sauce. Great dish to try if you haven’t had it before.

 Ratatouille – $9

Finally, my fav part of dinner, DESSERT!! I got the vanilla bean creme brulee and my gosh was it GINORMOUS! Lovely Mr D told them it was our anniversary so they wrote it on our plates as a surprise (how sweet!!). I went for the crack of the hard caramel and it made such a satisfying crack. The custard base was AMAZEBALL!! My regret is that I wish I wasn’t so full so I could have finished it all (regrets I has them!). Totally will come back for desserts!

Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee – $16

Mr D got the Apple Tarte Tatin since the chocolate dessert was out (it was only 7:30PM by then…). He was super duper happy with his choice! It was pretty good but I prefer my creme brulee over his dessert.

Apple Tarte Tatin – $16

I enjoyed the service and especially the food! However, as I went to pay and accidentally put in the wrong PIN for my credit card, the waitress was really rude about it and ruined the amazing evening I had. That was a such a disappointment and such a bad note to end the night with.
